August 24 @ 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm
This summer, sacred flute brothers Nigel Shaw (Dartmoor), Guillermo Martinez (USA) and Hiroki Okano (Japan) will be leading a very special workshop and performing a rare concert at Embercombe, on the edge of Dartmoor.
SACRED SOUNDS OF MOTHER EARTH
Workshop 1pm – 5pm
Join Guillermo, Hiroki and Nigel for a journey through sacred sound, using three ancient instruments: the rattle, the drum and the flute. We will explore how human cultures around the world have always created ceremony and song using these beautiful tools, looking at their profound differences and deep similarities. We will share Shinto prayer, Aztec dance and ancient Celtic melody – everyone will have a chance to meet and play a diverse range of extraordinary musical instruments. We will also take these sacred sounds to the wonderful stone circle at Embercombe for a closing ceremony. Participants are invited to bring their own musical instruments to this workshop.
BAMBOO CEDAR OAK CONCERT
With special guests Carolyn Hillyer and Domenic DeCicco 7pm – 10pm
A gentle and powerful performance by these three master flute players. A unity of spirit and true sense of brotherhood is evoked as they move between gentle flute pieces, traditional Buddhist and native Meso-American prayers, and powerful drumming chants. This music is enriched by the diversity of ancient sounds from their many traditional instruments and the understanding that in essence we all sing the same songs. Bamboo Cedar Oak will be joined by Carolyn Hillyer and Domenic Decicco during the evening.
