December 6 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm
Evening concert by Carolyn and Nigel, performing music from their recent album, This Remembered Earth as well as other songs and instrumental pieces that honour our precious planet and her ancient peoples.
This precious, extraordinary, beautiful Earth. How might we create songs that cause our souls to weep from the wonder and pain of this remembered Earth? We carried these title words in our pockets for years, until one day we reached a winter edge where the songs began to flow with their own unbound freedom, while we ran behind plucking lyrics and melodies out of the soft and fierce weather. This ancient, magical surprising Earth. How might we craft music that causes our dancing feet to leap as we travel the wild forgotten ways of this remembered Earth?
As ever, we have sought our inspiration for this music on Dartmoor’s high granite hills and Scotland’s craggy granite mountains. We found magic there upon the peaks and within the river valleys as we walked and dreamed. We sought to infuse these songs with layered voices and intricate melodies. We stirred many instruments into the creation journey, including hand-carved wooden flutes, whistles, fujara, koncovka, kaval, jura guitar, acoustic guitar, strum stick, piano, keyboards, frame drums, stag & stallion drum, cahon, djembe, deer toe rattle, deer bone rattle and other antlered percussion, as well as lyrics in the 4000-year-old Proto-Celtic language. We want this music to be a hymn of honouring to the Earth, as well as a lullaby and a lament and an invocation. We hope you will soar with us above these mountain peaks and share the wonder of being a part of this remembered Earth.
