£55
workshop only / £10 concert only / £60 workshop
& concert.
A very unique opportunity to spend a day working with
the Bamboo Cedar Oak brotherhood of flute players in a
workshop intensive following on from their recent project
Songs of our Grandfathers and which features a deep journey
through the musical and spiritual traditions of three
ancient cultures, each deeply connected with the earth
and with the honouring of our ancestors.
Through
sacred circle and simple ritual, much of it around the
hearth fire of the ancestor roundhouse, participants will
learn how each land has shaped its people and their lives.
By sharing the music of the flutes and the creation of
sacred totems, we will explore the connection that runs
through all the people of earth and the threads of our
common humanity. The workshop is a profound and joyous
meeting of tribes and a sharing of our stories and myths.
It includes teachings about the traditions of flute, drum
and rattle (the three sacred instruments of all cultures);
Aztec ritual dances; Shinto and Buddhist ceremony and
prayers; and deep Celtic meditations connecting us to
this ancient land.
Guillermo
Martinez is a master instrument-maker from California
and native Tarascan, a tribe from the highlands of Michoacan,
Mexico. He is a highly regarded teacher of the traditional
methods of making and playing sacred instruments, a gifted
storyteller and a teacher of traditional Aztec dances.
Hiroki
Okano is a former Shingon Buddhist monk and one of the
most highly respected ambient composers in Japan. He
plays a great variety of ancient, traditional Japanese
and contemporary instruments and travels the world working
as a peace ambassador for Japan and creating deep ceremony
based on Shinto & Buddhist traditions
